    Program Description

    At the core of the School of Music and Dance’s composition program is a thriving artistic community of approximately 45 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral composers.

    The program’s comprehensive approach integrates compositional studies with theory, history, ethnomusicology, intermedia technology, contemporary performance practice, multimedia collaboration, and an intensive career development seminar.

    A diverse yet focused curriculum prepares each student for a future as a professional composer.

    Scholarly writing sample
    Scores of original works for large and small ensembles that demonstrate marked ability and technical skill in composition.
    Statement of Purpose
    Three letters of recommendation

    Optional:
    An interview with a member of the composition faculty can be arranged at the request of the applicant
