German, PhD
Program Description
The College of Arts and Sciences German PhD curriculum offers an intensive set of advanced courses with a primary focus on German-language literature and culture since the Enlightenment.Through courses across a variety of levels, the study of theoretical and philosophical discourses complements the investigation of literary genres and their historical contexts.
In addition to rigorous academic instruction, we provide support of career exploration across a broad range of academic and non-academic careers that require skills and knowledge we teach. Further, we actively encourage our students to pursue Graduate Specializations or Certificates, and we enthusiastically support study in concurrent Graduate Degree programs at the University of Oregon, in fields as various as Non-Profit Management, Law, Education, and so on, so that students may develop diverse and individualized career applications of their German Studies education.
