Program Description
The PhD in Accounting at the Lundquist College of Business is designed to prepare students for academic careers as faculty at universities that emphasize rigorous scholarly research. Our program emphasizes close mentorship, collaborative faculty-student research, and a supportive learning atmosphere. It includes approximately two years of coursework, with a minimum of nine accounting and finance courses (at least five at the graduate level), five in econometrics/statistics/research methods, and three in economics, followed by first- and second-year research papers crafted to top-tier journal standards, a comprehensive qualifying exam after the second year, and the completion of an original dissertation by the fifth year.The program provides strong financial and professional support to ensure student success. All students receive full tuition waivers, a generous stipend, and health coverage. They are also allocated dedicated workspace with technology resources and co-located offices to foster collaboration and a scholarly community. Additionally, students can apply for research funding and may receive Robin and Roger Best Awards in recognition of outstanding doctoral research and teaching.
