Program Description
The chemistry and biochemistry PhD program at the University of Oregon is designed to keep our student researchers at the forefront of chemical science.Our programs in the traditional areas of biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry lay the foundation for new discoveries in materials science, molecular biology, optics, and theoretical chemistry.
Though our department is medium in size, we are a leading innovator in chemistry. The quality of our educational program has been recognized by training grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Education. These grants recognize and support our efforts to provide a comprehensive educational program that can be tailored to the varied career goals of our students.

Personal Statement: A 2-page statement of purpose. This should (A) discuss your main research interests, ideas, and questions; (B) explain your prior research experience and professional work and how it shapes your interest and future goals; and (C) state why the University of Oregon is aligned with your career goals and how you define success in your graduate studies.
Three letters of recommendation: Our online application requests contact information for each reference. References will receive an email from us inviting them to fill out our online reference form. Transcripts: Scanned unofficial transcripts can be uploaded to your online application. Please include transcripts from all schools where you received college credit. We will only require official transcripts after you have been accepted into our program and you decide to enroll here. At that time, we will require final degree transcripts, which are transcripts that show your degree and the date it was awarded.

If you prefer to have your results sent to us, please use the institution code; 4846, and the department code; 0301. If you have taken the test and are still waiting for your scores, you may leave this section blank. It can take up to 5 weeks for us to receive results, even for the computer test.
